What to do during a distance Reiki session

Yay! You’ve booked a distance Reiki session, and you’re all prepared. Now, you have to figure out what to do during the session.

In my family, when we feel awkward, we say, “I don’t know what to do with my hands!” I find this is the case for many of my clients who are new to distance Reiki, and that is OK! That’s why I’m here with a few tips to help you through the process.

Prepare

If you need help preparing for the session, you can read this more in-depth article on that subject, so I’m going to assume you’re all prepared and start from there.

Block Distractions, If Possible

It’s not always possible to block all distractions in our lives, but do what you can.

  • Set your phone to Do Not Disturb (no vibrations) or Airplane Mode.

  • Wear headphones to cancel out unwanted noise

  • Burn a candle to block the smell of that toast you burned this morning

  • Draw the curtains to block the light

You get the idea — do whatever you can to make it the most relaxing environment possible for yourself.

You have set aside this time for yourself, so make the most of it!

Focus on Your Breath

Once you’re comfortable, I find a way to settle into the session is to focus on your breath — in a similar way to how you might begin to meditate.

Bring your awareness to where you notice your breath. This might be at edges of your nostrils, in your chest, or around your diaphragm. If it’s one of the latter two, place your hand on that spot as you breathe.

You don’t need to alter the flow of your breath. Simply notice it flowing in and out of your body. Notice the air filling your lungs and emptying.

During the session, if you find that you need to recenter yourself, focusing on your breath is typically a good way to do so.

Embrace What Comes

Everyone has a different experience during Reiki, so I can’t tell you with 100% accuracy what will come next for you. I can gently suggest, though, that you embrace what comes to you.

For some people, the only thing that they experience is a deep relaxation, like a meditative state. For others, they will feel the need occasionally to sigh, cough, belch, expel gas, laugh, sing, curse, yell, talk, move, and many other things. They might see lights, colors, angels, beings, or just darkness. Some feel tingly in different parts of the body as the practitioner moves over the body. Others feels a little tension. Others feel nothing.

All of these experiences (and whatever you experience, if not specifically mentioned) are right and good, and I encourage you to flow with it. It likely means that there is energy trying to move. Let it! That’s the whole point of the session is to move energy — let it flow!

Enjoy!

I cannot emphasize this point enough – prepare to enjoy the experience!  The Reiki is working for your highest and greatest good.  Smile!  Enjoy it!  The Universe is especially smiling on you during this time – smile back!  This is a beautiful time!

Still Have Questions?

If you have questions that I didn’t address here, based on your specific condition or anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask me.  I’d love to see how I could be of service!
