Can Reiki be Done Virtually?

Virtual Reiki, or distance Reiki, seems like the weirdest, scammiest thing. I’m the first to admit that, and it’s something I do for a living.

When I tell people what I do, I expect most of the people to be like, “Oh yeah, that’s not real.” I probably expect that reaction because I was one of those people not too long ago.

Let’s walk through the broad strokes of what virtual Reiki is and how it works, and I’m going to point you toward some more resources to explore if you’re as fascinated as I was.

Keep in mind some of this is tailored to the experience you would have with me here at Light into You, but some of this applies to just about any distance Reiki. Let’s go!

Reiki Uses Energy + Intention

Reiki itself is a natural healing modality that uses energy and intention to help a body balance its energy flow. This can be accomplished without both the Reiki practitioner and client being in the same geographical location because of that energy + intention formula.

When I offer Reiki to someone, the work is being done in two locations: where I am and where my client is. I’m not the only one working. My client is working equally hard, if not harder, whether they feel that or not.

How My Clients and I Align

My client and I align our intentions for their session by discussing their intentions for the session, and my intention is always that the session work toward their highest and greatest good.

During the session, I act as a conduit to help facilitate the flow of Reiki into their body, which helps my client work to balance the energy flow where it’s needed most in their body.

Most of my clients do not consciously understand or feel that they are doing this work in the moment, but by helping them reach a meditative-like state, they are able to more easily do the work that is needed and achieve more powerful results.

Types of Virtual Reiki

I offer two types of virtual Reiki:

  • Via Zoom, where the client and I interact similarly to how we might if we were in the same geographical space

  • Background, where the client and I do not have direct communication during the session itself

Both types of virtual Reiki are equally impactful for my clients, and I find that by allowing my clients to self-select which method they prefer to receive Reiki, it provides an atmosphere that is more conducive to healing for each person.

More Resources for Why Virtual Reiki Works

If this all still seems a bit too woo-woo for you, I get that! That’s why I’ve put this page together. It’s a growing compilation of studies and articles about Reiki and some of the scientific reasoning behind it.

I also highly recommend reading Dr. David R. Hamilton’s book Why Woo-Woo Works. It’s an excellent read!

Still Have Questions?

This is a high-level overview of virtual Reiki. If you have more questions that I didn’t address here, based on your specific condition or anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask me. I’d love to see how I could be of service!
